About dicompeek
dicompeek is a small set of free tools for people who receive a DICOM file and just want to look at it: a patient with a scan on a CD, a student, a researcher, a developer debugging an export. It opens and converts DICOM in your browser, without an account and without sending the file anywhere.
It is an independent project by an individual software developer. It is not a medical device and not a PACS. It is not affiliated with NEMA, the DICOM Standards Committee or any imaging vendor.
How it works
The site is plain static files served from a CDN. When you choose a file, JavaScript in your browser parses it, decodes the pixels and draws them to a canvas. There is no server that could receive the file, and the page's security policy only allows the browser to talk to the site itself. The privacy policy has the details.
Software and sample data
- dicom-parser (MIT licence, © Chris Hafey and contributors) reads the DICOM structure. Pixel decoding, windowing and the zip writer are written for this site.
- Sample image: the CT slice behind “Try a sample” comes from the pydicom test data (MIT licence). It is a small test image, not a real patient's scan. The licence text is at /samples/LICENSE-pydicom.txt.
- Built with Astro and hosted on Cloudflare Pages.
Found a bug or a file that will not open?
Tell me through the contact page. Describe the file's transfer syntax and modality (the tag list on the home page shows both) rather than sending the file: please do not email patient data.
